Solar 4G cameras for farms in Kenya
For Kenyan farms, boreholes and plots with no power and no Wi-Fi, a solar camera with a Safaricom or Airtel data SIM is the practical option. This page covers the bands, prices and rules that matter in Kenya, and how resellers can buy from us.
Why a solar 4G camera in Kenya
- Dairy and livestock farms in the Rift Valley and central Kenya often sit far from the grid and outside Wi-Fi range, so cameras that need a router are no use there.
- Borehole pumps, solar pump controllers and cables are common targets, as are cattle, goats and sheep taken at night.
- Many listings in Kenya say “works with Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom SIM cards”. That is only true when the camera supports B3 and B20; ask the seller which bands it has.
4G networks and bands in Kenya
A 4G camera only connects when its radio supports the band the network uses where you mount it. These are the bands listed for each network in the sources below. They are a starting point, not an operator statement, so we check the band version against your network before we ship.
| Network | 4G bands listed |
|---|---|
| Safaricom | B3 (1800 MHz), B20 (800 MHz) |
| Airtel Kenya | B20 (800 MHz) |
| Faiba (JTL) | B28 (700 MHz) |
Our Africa band version supports B1, B3, B7, B8, B20 and B28. If a seller cannot tell you which bands a camera supports, assume it may not work on your network.
Rules for SIM cameras in Kenya
Communications Authority of Kenya (CA). The CA type-approves communications equipment used on public networks, and reports in 2026 say it has told ICT equipment dealers to get approval before selling. We have not yet confirmed with the CA how it treats SIM cameras, and Solvigil models do not hold Kenyan type approval yet. Importers should ask their clearing agent and the CA before the first shipment.
